Banner-Foodie-Focus

Welcome to the second issue of „Foodie Focus“ (you can find the first one here – Chia), today with the focus on ginger.

Herkunft / Origin

Ginger is native to Asia and India. Used are only the roots that grow horizontally in the ground.

Inhaltsstoffe und gesundheitlicher Wert / Ingredients and nutritional value

Main components of ginger are essential oil, resin acids and gingerol, which gives ginger its sharpness. The roots also contain lots of vitamin C, magnesium, iron, calcium, potassium, sodium and phosphorus.

Ginger has anti-bacterial and anti-viral effects, emetic (protects from vomiting), improves circulation, increases bile production and is considered an aphrodisiac.Additionally it has a warming effect on the body, which is great for people like me who feel cold all the time 😉

Verwendung / Usage

Basically ginger can be used in three different ways:

Wo kaufen? / Where to buy?

You can find fresh ginger as well as the spice in most supermarkets (especially in asian supermarkets).
